Supported employment participant looks forward to retirement

The Arc of Greensboro hosted a retirement celebration to toast long-time Supported Employment consumer Denny Ingold who retired Dec. 31 after working 19 years with Domino's Pizza. Ingold has been in the supported employment program since its beginning in 1990. Click here to read the Guilford Record story about this milestone event.

New Agency Programs

Thanks to the grant support of local foundations, The Arc of Greensboro will be launching two new programs targeting people with developmental disabilities and their families.

With a $12,891 grant from the Lincoln Financial Foundation and a $2,421 from the Ecolab Foundation, The Arc will be starting a new program in January called KEYS TO EMPLOYMENT. That program will focus on the skills needed to achieve success in the workplace – skills that extend beyond performing the essential duties of your job. KEYS TO EMPLOYMENT will focus on topics such as how to communicate with co-workers, time management, conflict resolution, personal hygiene, decision-making and problem solving are also critical in making a smooth transition to the working world.  Participants will learn skills through a series of 45-minute workshops that use workbooks and training videos to explore a variety of topics.  Then participants will put those skills – such as opening a bank account – into practice in real world environments.
