The Greensboro Self Advocacy Group (GSAG)

Learning how to speak up for yourself is important. By speaking up and letting people know what you think and feel, you can help them plan programs and activities that you need and enjoy.
Speaking up for yourself is called self advocacy. People who tell their families, care-givers and friends what they want and need are called self advocates.
The Greensboro Self Advocacy Group knows that the best way to learn to speak up is for people with disabilities to lead the group.
Every year, members of the group elect officers. These officers make decisions about fundraising, membership and guest speakers.
Everyone in the GSAG has a chance to speak up. Members vote on important issues that affect the group.
At GSAG meetings, members have guest speakers who teach them about self advocacy and community living. Guest speakers have talked about voting, laws that directly affect people with disabilities, self-protection, medications and many other topics as requested by the group.
The group meets every month at Lindley Recreation Center, 2907 Springwood Drive in Greensboro.
