Challenger Sports League Awards Banquet

The Arc of Greensboro held the Challenger Sports Baseball League Celebration and Awards Banquet October 18 at Muirs Chapel United Methodist Church .  Karla M. Ewald, Executive Director and Kathy Kraus, Board President welcomed the athletes and their parents, coaches, volunteers, donors & sponsors.  Rick Pizzo, WFMY-TV 2 Sportscaster served as Emcee.  Donald Moore, President and Tom Howe, General Manager of The Greensboro Grasshoppers, were special presenters.

Coach Carol Vance presented the following Challenger Sports Athletes who played on the Phillies Team trophy’s and team photos for their participation in the Baseball League:  Bradley Burris, Katie Fennie, Cory Fields, Michael Flores, Cameron Huffstetler, Stephanie Lawire, Paul Lenfestey, Thomas Loftis, Ben Mallernee, Addie Sellars, Zeb Vance, John Vanderwerff, Nick Watson, Adam Widman and Trevous Wyrick.

Coaches Azell and Tim Reeves and Junior Woods presented the following Challenger Sports Athletes who played on the Athletics Team trophy’s and team photos for their participation in the Baseball League:  Nathan Adelman, Jordan Brindle-Gibbs, Savannah Childers, Fred Clauhs, Josh Craig, Dalton Fitzsimmons, Donovan Goins, Brandon Herbin, Jason Hinshaw, Joseph Hinshaw, Gavin Hoover, Anthony McRae, Matthew Newman, Elizabeth Overman, Timothy Reeves, Jr., Tucker White, Grayson Williams and Junior Woods.

Coaches Ernie Kehayes, Mary Beth Payne and Rob Rose presented the following Challenger Sports Athletes who played on the Dodgers Team trophy’s and team photos for their participation in the Baseball League:  Jonathan Braxton, Ashley Bruno, Ali Crandall, Donald Crandall, Kendall Dickenson, Marrissa Johnson, Natalie Locklear, Evan McCraw, Justin Myers, Bradley Neal, Jeremiah Ore, Maria Rodriguez, Ryan Rose, Emily Savage, Josh Segal, Drew Shaw, David Allen Smith, Anna Stalter, Anthony Taylor and Tommy Wagner.  Hannah Adelman and Jordan Segal, Cheerleaders for the Dodgers, were also recognized.

Coaches Ned Steele, Ernie Kehayes and Mary Beth Payne presented the following Challenger Sports Athletes who played on the Yankees Team trophy’s and team photos for their participation in the Baseball League:

Spencer Carr, Donovan Hofacker, Jordan Kraus, Jared Little, Wesley Mahoney, Sam Miller, Morgan Murray, Mike Scoglio, Katie Steele, Amy Summers and Bath-Sheba Ward.

The following coaches were recognized for the dedication, motivation and leadership they devoted to the Athletes of The Challenger Sports Baseball League:  Mitchell Causey, Ernie Kehayes, Mary Beth Payne, Azell & Tim Reeves, Rob Rose, Pam Scoglio, Ned Steele, Gil & Carol Vance, Ronald Wilson and Junior Woods.

The following volunteers were recognized for their commitment of time and dedication to the athletes of The Challenger Sports Baseball League:  Amanda Chapman, Skye Dregalla, Mary Kate Ferry, Laura Freeze, Erin Hill, Shanika D. Jackson, Marilauren Kaluza, John Killough, Lee Lashley, Sam Miller, Lindsay Mosley, Amy Pulliam and Olga Robinson.

Isadore Murrow was recognized for his long time commitment and dedication to the Challenger Sports Athletes as captured through his photography.  Austin Taylor, who provided the musical entertainment at the Awards Banquet, was recognized for his dedication of time and hard work put forth as Commentator for The Challengers Sports Baseball League.

The following donors and sponsors were recognized for their donations to The Challenger Sports League:  The Greensboro Kiwanis Club for their donation of a $5,000 grant, The Knights of Columbus – Piedmont Council #939 for their donation of a $1,000 grant, and The Arc Members and Supporters for a special $5,000 grant from The Arc Fund.
