Who is The Arc?

The Arc of Greensboro was formed more than 49 years ago by people concerned about the lack of services for their children, adults, and friends.  Today, The Arc is one of the nation’s largest voluntary organizations. The Arc is composed of parents, educators, professionals in the field, individuals with mental retardation and community citizens. The common bond that pulls them together is the desire to improve the welfare of persons with mental retardation - approximately 7.3 million in the United States.

What does The Arc do?

he Arc is involved in a variety of projects reflecting the needs of all persons with mental retardation. The Arc creates and supports programs in the areas of:

The Arc is committed to assist persons with mental retardation and their families. Facilitating the process of reaching one’s fullest potential is part of The Arc’s mission. This will increase independence and promote a sense of belongingness.
    If you have a family member with mental retardation, The Arc may have answers to some of the problems you face. If you have a desire to help persons with mental retardation, The Arc is a means for reaching out and committing yourself to assist persons with special needs.
